This came in quick succession after Obi’s “place holder,” running mate, Doyin Okupe, withdrew from the race.

Here are some 15 things you probably do not know about Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s confirmed running mate.

1.Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed was born to the Baba-Ahmed family in Zaria, Kaduna State, in 1975/1976.

2.He is among the 33 children of his father, Baba Ahmed, who was an Arab cattle trader from modern-day Mauritania, who later became a notable professor and expert on Islamic jurisprudence.

3.Baba Ahmed has a BSc and MSc in Economics from the University of Maiduguri in Borno State.

4.He worked at the Security Printing and Minting Company, Lagos before joining politics.

5.Baba Ahmed was elected member, House of Representatives for Zaria Federal Constituency on the platform of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2003.

6.While in the position, he became popular for speaking out against corruption and the third term agenda of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo.

7.In 2006, while serving as a Federal Representative, he earned the title of PhD when he completed his studies at the University of Westminster.

8.In 2007, he took the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over conduct of past elections.

9.Baba Ahmed was founder and Pro-Chancellor of Baze University, an independent citadel of learning, located in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, which opened in April 2011.

10.In April 2011elections, Baba Ahmed polled 366,398 votes to win the Senatorial seat for Kaduna North Senatorial District from 2011-2012.

11.In 2018, he ran unsuccessfully for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

12.Baba Ahmed was the Managing Director of Baze Research and Data Services Ltd.

13.He was a member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

14.He recently lost his quest as a gubernatorial aspirant to run under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship elections in Kaduna State.
