A stricter ‎measure to curtail the spread of Corona Virus in Kwara State has kicked off as people stayed at home in compliance with a government order to do so yesterday.
The Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had earlier announced a restriction order in the State banning event gatherings, religious worships and commercial transportations.
However, the government gave a mild grace on Thursday to allow government space to get their salaries paid and shopping to stock their homes in readiness for the stay at home order.
It was not clear for now when the restriction would end but like in any other places, it might remain till cure is found for COVID-19.
To ensure strict compliance, the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr Kayode Egbetokun took some officers and men of his Command round the state capital to enforce the order.
Police Spokesman in the State, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, said the Commissioner of Police is personally supervising the police action in enforcing the order.‎
He expressed police satisfaction with the level of compliance of the order by the people of the State. ‎
He, however, condemned an old habit in the people where they often wait till the eleventh hour before they complied even with a simple order.‎‎
At the time of filing this report, streets of Ilorin were virtually empty with few vehicular movements observed.
This was the situation on the major streets like Ajasse Ipo Road, Station, Emir Road, Sango, Maraba. Gaa Akanbi, Tanke and Taiwo Road.
