COVID-19: 35 quarantined over death of doctor in Katsina

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State says 35 people among those  who had contact with the doctor who died of coronavirus in Daura have been traced and quarantined.

He said in a statement that their samples have been sent to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for COVID-19 test.

Gov Masari added that “ investigation is still on to trace ALL those that had contact with him.”

Gov. Aminu Masari had on Tuesday, 7th April at a press conference confirmed the death of Dr Aliyu Yakubu.

He said the deceased, aged 60, died at the Nigeria Air Force Reference Hospital, Daura, Katsina State.

He pointed out that the late Dr Yakubu who owned a private hospital in Daura had visited his home state, Kogi, from where he traveled to Lagos some weeks ago.

Masari said that after returning to the state, the deceased fell sick and was admitted at the hospital, where he died three days ago.

According to him, the deceased samples were taken to the Nigeria Centre for Decease Control (NCDC) for diagnosis before his death and was diagnosed positive to Coronavirus.

“We have received a bad news of COVID-19. The deceased samples showed COVID-19 positive.

“Before his death, he was also diagnosed for hepatitis and hypertension, three years ago,” he said.
