Channels TV Cameraman, others shot, as Shiites and Police clash in Abuja

A Channels Television Cameraman was among those who suffered gunshots in Abuja on Monday when members of the Shiites group who were protesting the continued detention of their leaders- Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky- clashed with the police.

The protest kicked off from NITEL Junction at Wuse 2 but policemen disrupted it as the Shiites surged towards the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Passersby ran helter-skelter as gun shots were fired by policemen while many abandoned their vehicles and ran for their dear lives.

A National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) facility within the precinct of the Federal Secretariat was razed down by the Shiites during the confrontation which claimed one life.

It was also learnt that a vehicle was burnt during the clash which occurred between 12 noon and 1.30 pm
