Today is a milestone in the history of Osun State. Exactly 29 years ago, Osun State was created by the military administration of Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. The state also had the then Col. Leo Ajiborisha as the Pioneer Military Governor.
As I rejoice with all the good people of our dear State, I also celebrate my dear Egbon Pataki and one of the leading Icons of Ede Mapo Arogun and a pride to Osun State and Nigeria. Born in Kadjebi-Accra, Gold Coast, now Ghana on August 27, 1948, Adeeyo started his elementary education at the Western Region of Nigeria Academy, the Children’s Home School, Molete, Ibadan. He later attended Adeola Odutola Comprehensive High School (Olu-Iwa College), Ijebu-Ode between 1962 and 1964, from where he moved to Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, where he completed his secondary education with distinction in 1966.
He also obtained his Higher School Certificate (HSC) programme in the same school. Adeeyo obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from the State University of New York, Albany in 1975. In 1976, he bagged his Master of Arts in International Relations and Public Administration also from the State University, New York, Albany.
Wale began his professional career as a Public Affairs Representative of Ciba-Geigy Corporation in the United States between 1976 and 1979. Upon his return to Nigeria in 1979, he assumed the post Senior Public Affairs Officer at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ikoyi, Lagos. In his quest to become an employer of labour and contribute to the national economic development of the nation, Adeeyo, in 1982, put his resources and thoughts together to found Vintage Enterprises Ltd, located at 100, Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
Adeeyo’s financial astuteness thereafter earned him accolades when he was appointed as the Director for WEMA Bank Plc, Lagos, between 1992 and 1996. Indeed, his interest and passion for journalism, however, endeared him to establish a press house in 2000.
A very skillful writer, passionate journalist and social critic, Adeeyo ensured that as the publisher and chairman of The Anchor Newspaper, the newspaper abides strictly with all sense of modesty to the ethical standard of journalistic profession. At inception, The Anchor made use of modern technology equipment and more than 200 graduates of cutting-edge professionals were employed to produce an outstanding Nigerian newspaper. The Anchor newspaper in its one and half years secured a place at the Headquarters of the United Nations and was featured in the in-house magazine of the United Nations, New York. It also got a personal letter of commendation from the United Nation’s Secretary General, Koffi Anan during its short stint.
In the area of youth empowerment, work ethics, professionalism and motivation, Adeeyo used the medium of his Foundation called ‘Balance’ established in 1999 to provide academic support in the area of scholarship to a number of students at the Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
Adeeyo cutting-edge and outstanding profile, no doubt, had won him several accolades. He has served meritoriously in various capacities he had been privilege to hold. Between 1991 and 1998, he was a member of Ogun State Government Elders council. Similarly, in 1999, he became a member of Lagos State Government Elders Caucus. In the year 2001, the Federal Government of Nigeria conferred on Adeeyo, the highly esteemed honour of the Officer of the Order of Niger (OON). This was in attestation to his contribution to human and capital development of the nation. Today, Adeeyo AdewaleAdesoji is the Chairman, Board of Directors of Mortgage Bank, Chairman of Board of Director of Cocoa Processing Industry, Ede, and a member, Governing Council of Adeleke University, Ede.
Indeed, the life of Adeeyo Adewale Adesoji is a good example of an individual whose ideas, passion, and interest have transformed the life of many and also contributed immensely to the human and capital development of Nigeria. Without a doubt, he is an epitome of great man. It is on this note that I wish to join numerous friends across the world to celebrate this illustrious and patriotic Nigeria on the occasion of his birthday, today, 27th August, 2020.
May this man who is ever proud of his Ede, Osun State ancestry continue to age gracefully.
