Buhari seeks Senate confirmation for appointments into NDDC, INEC, others

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate requesting for confirmation of appointments into the judiciary, INEC and Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

In one of the four letters read on the floor of the Senate Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari requested for confirmation of appointments of the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

In accordance with the provision of section 2 (2) (a) of the NDDC (Establishment) Act, 2000 President Buhari forwarded for confirmation by the Senate the under listed nominees for appointment into NDDC Board.

They are Dr. Pius Odubu, Edo state, chairman, Bernard O. Okumagba Delta state, managing director, Engr. Otobong Ndem Akwa Ibom state, executive director projects, Maxwell Oko Bayelsa state, executive director finance and administration and Prophet Jones Erue Delta state representative.

Others are Chief Victor Ekhator, Edo state representative, Dr. Joy Yimebe Nunieh, Rivers state representative, Nwogu N. Nwogu, Abia state representative, Theodore A. Allison, Bayelsa state representative and Victor Antai, Akwa Ibom state representative.

Also on the board are Maurice Effiwatt, Cross River representative, Olugbenga Edema, Ondo state representative, Hon. Uchegbu Chidiebere Kyrian, Imo state representative, Aisha Murtala Mohammed, (Kano state), North west representative, Shuaibu Ardo Zubairu, (Adamawa state), North East representative and Amb. Abdullahi M. Bage, (Nasarawa state), North central representative. All their curriculum vitae were equally attached for Senate consideration.

In another letter addressed to the Senate President and dated 28th October, 2019 titled “request for confirmation of appointment of Honourable Justice J.T. Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court”, President Buhari said pursuant to section 250 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) “I hereby write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Honourable Justice J.T. Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of of Nigerians”.

He urged the Senate to consider the request in the “usual expeditious manner “.

In a similar letter President Buhari cited section 254B (1) of the 1999 constitution to seek Senate Confirmation of the appointment of Honourable Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

In the last letter read the same day President Buhari requested for confirmation of appointment of three state resident electoral commissioners for INEC.

President Buhari cited paragraph 14 (3) of Part I of the Third Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) to request Senate Confirmation of the appointment of three nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners of INEC.

They are Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, Borno state, Dr. Alalibo Sinikiem Johnson, Bayelsa and Raheem Muideen Olalekan, Osun state.

He attached the curriculum vitae of the nominees for Senate consideration.
