Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his party secured a major victory on Wednesday as the President of the Court of Appeal and Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), Justice Zainab Bulkachua withdrew from presiding over the petition they filled against the election of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They had alleged, in a motion, that Justice Bulkachuwa was likely to be biased in view of her husband and son being members of the APC.

In a ruling Wednesday evening, the five-man PEPT rejected the motion by Atiku and his party for being unmeritorious.
But, justice Bulkachuwa, elected to exclude herself from the tribunal βon personal grounds.β
She said a new member would be appointed in her place and that the other four members of the tribunal could proceed to deal with preliminary issues In relation to the four petitions currently pending before the tribunal.
