Borno Council boss commends electorate for voting massively despite Boko Haram threats, urges similar voters turnout for next polls

The Caretaker Chairman of Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, Hon. Zanna Modu Gubio has commended his people and the entire electorate in he state for their resilience trooped out enmasse to cast their votes for President Muhammadu Buhari and all other candidates who contested the National Assembly elections on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari for his re- election, governor Kashim Shettima as senator- elect Borno Central, Hon. Usman Zannah who was also elected as House of Representatives for Gubio, Kaga and Magumeri federal constituency, as well as other APC candidates who came out victorious.

Recal that, on the last Saturday 23rd February, 2019 general elections, some parts of Maiduguri Metropolis were attacked and threatened by insurgents which were repelled by Military.

The Caretaker Chairman while addressing Journalists on the Council’s preparedness for the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections slated to hold on 9th March, 2019, said, government will provided adequate resources and logistics to fiery people from volatile environment cast their votes in an atmosphere of peace, fair and free exercise, as witnessed in the last Saturday general elections.

Although, he said, there is no resettlement camps in Gubio, as all his people are living in their various wards/communities, government had to heed to advice from the security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to convey electorates from volatile communities to Gubio Town Polling Centre, where they were fed and taken care of by his administration throughout the exercise irrespective of their political inclination.

Hon. Modu said, a total of 121 polling units are to lawfully participated in the forthcoming elections in Gubio, adding that, some people living in communities that are relatively unsafe, adequate arrangement are been put in place to convey them to the newly constructed Mega School and cattle market Polling Units in Gubio town, as there is adequate security provided by Officers and Men of 5 Brigade Headquarters, Nigerian Army, Police and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members in the town.

His words: ” I want to commend our Leader, Governor Kashim Shettima, Security Agencies, INEC Officials and our law abiding people/electorates for witnessing peaceful, free and fair elections in Gubio Town.

“I urge all and sundry to reciprocate the gesture to come out enmasse on Saturday 9th March to exercise our franchise in the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, just like what translated last week during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

” As government, we are leaving no stone unturned to provide an enabling environment for our people to cast their votes to candidates of their choice.

“Due to the security situations we found ourselves, we have 121 polling Units across all the wards/communities of Gubio Local Goverent Area, but all these units are located in Gubio town for peaceful exercise. As we always do, we are going to convey all the people living in some volatile environment on or before the election day to cast their votes in Gubio”, the Chairman said.

He however called on his people, especially eligible voters not to be deterred by the activities of insurgents, but come out enmasse to vote Professor Babagana Umara Zulum as Governor and other House of Assembly Candidates on the platform of the ruling APC for continuity and good governance.
