The National Primary Health Care Development Agency and Borno State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BoSPHCDA) under the Executive Director, Dr. Sule Meleh on Monday flagged off 3- Day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Infection, prevention and Control of COVID-19 for over 270 participants/Primary Health Care Workers drawn for 27 local government areas of the state.
The exercise which is being conducted via video conferencing to observe the rules of Social/physical distancing was facilitated by public health experts from the National and State levels, after similar training were conducted last week for participants from the BoSPHCDA, Ministry of Health, Hospitals Management Board, UNICEF, WHO and other humanitarian partners in the state.
Dr. Meleh in his address to the participants said that COVID-19 is real and urged them to utilize the opportunities derived during and after the training to ensure cascade to their respective Health Facilities and communities.
He said the purpose of the training is to; understand infection, prevention and control of the virus, assess the risk of infection to self and others and decide on the appropriate Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to use and describe key elements of transmission based precautions and key elements of Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) as it relates to COVID-19.
Others according to Meleh is to facilitate the early identification of cases of suspected COVID-19 infection and apply standard precautions, as well as demonstrate proper hand wash as a key component of IPC in the state.
While thanking the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and the Borno State Task Force/Response Team for prevention and control of the virus being chaired by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state, urged all and sundry to support government in its effort to nip the virus in the bud.
