Gov. Shettima/Zulum Confirms Kadafur As Borno Dep. Gov Candidate.
* Durkwa Fumes Plans, Showdown
By: Ali Musa Biu
The suspense over who is the authentic running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC)  governorship candidate in Borno State,  Professor Babagana Zulum, has finally been put to rest with the public presentation of Umar Usman Kadafur by Governor Kashim Shettima and the candidate.
Governor Shettima and Professor Zulum collectively presented Kadafur in Shani,in the southern part on Tuesday during the presentation of the staff of office to the Emir of Shani,  Alhaji Nasiru Mailafiya,  as a first class emir.
Shettima who had earlier presented Professor Zulum and other candidates of the party for the general elections was apparently responding to public demand for the confirmation of the deputy governorship candidate.
The clarification came on the heels of persistent intrigues by the incumbent Deputy Governor Usman Durkwa,  who had been posing as having been renominated for the post.
Durkwa who stormed the venue of the ceremony with hundreds of his supporters under the leadership of the Hawul Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman,  Daniel Musa Malang was virtually booed out of the venue after Kadafur’s confirmation.
Our correspondent reports that the incumbent Deputy Governor,  Usman Durkwa has been heating up the polity by pairing his picture with that of Professor Zulum,  and by asking his supporters to destroy billboards mounted with Kadafur as the running mate.
Governor Kashim Shettima’s action has meanwhile galvanized the political tempo in the southern part,  which had been lacklustre following the controversy generated by Durkwa and his followers
Investigations reveal that the Deputy Governor may have perfected plans to sabotage the gubernatorial campaigns owing to what he regards as public disgrace to him by his boss and Professor Zulum
Sources close to him confirmed that before moving to Shani from Gombe with his entourage,  Usman Durkwa had confided in some people that he is ready for a showdown if he is denied the position of Deputy Governor in the next dispensation.
As it is,  the stage seems set,  as he has vowed to avenge his humiliation and alleged harassment of his boys in Shani.
Meanwhile,  the governorship campaign train for Professor Zulum and Umar Kadafur seems to have fully taken off with Tuesday’s events in Shani.
