Suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday laid ambush along Maiduguri -Konduga- Bama road and killed a driver in between Shattimari village of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno state, multiple sources have said.
A reliable security source who is not authorized to talk to the press said the incident happened at about 1:15pm, which disrupted vehicular movement for some hours.
He said a driver of a Golf Volkswagen car (name withheld) was killed in the ambush, and his remains were evacuated to Bama Local Government Area for burial.
He, however, said some passengers in the ill-fated Volkswagen saloon vehicle escaped into the bush while others were feared kidnapped by the insurgents.
“Confirmed report indicated that some terrorists armed with AK47 rifles ambushed some motorists along 85km Maiduguri- Konduga – Bama road this afternoon at 1315 hours (exact location is Shattimari village which is located in between Kawuri and Awulari villages) of Konduga along Bama – Konduga road.
“One casualty is been recorded of a golf vehicle driver. The dead body already evacuated to Bama for burial arrangement. Though, the road is still busy after the attack with military on patrol,” the source said.
The Maiduguri- Konduga – Bama road which runs through the heart of Sambisa Forest (Boko Haram hideouts) was opened to motorists early last year, after its closure for over many years due to series of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines planted on the road by the insurgents, before military were able to defused and cleared the road.
