Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has condemned the attack on the family house of Senate President, Bukola Saraki in Kwara state.
He said the use of thugs backed by police to intimidate and silence political opponents must be condemned by all Nigerians as the country prepares for this year’s elections.
He stressed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration ought not to focus only on the coming elections, but remember that their tenure runs till May 29, 2019 within which time they are responsible for the security of lives and property of every Nigerian.
Governor Ortom urged security operatives to show sincerity in their hunt for those suspected to be responsible for the attack on Saraki’s house, even if they are supporters of the ruling APC.
He cautioned youths not to allow themselves to be used by some politicians to assault opponents, even as he sympathized with Senator Saraki as well as victims of the attack.
Recall that the police had accused Saraki of misinforming the public with his claims that suspected thugs working for the APC invaded his family compound in Kwara with the help of some policemen and destroyed a lot of things.
The allegation was denied in a statement by the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, in which the police said Saraki had not lodged complaint to the force as of the time he held the press conference where the allegations were made.
The police said there was no such thing as giving protection to any political thug or shielding any APC thug to invade the family compound of the Senate president.
