The presidential fag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has, at last, chosen Alhaji Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno State, as his running mate in the 2023 general elections, confirming the long held fears of a Muslim-Muslim ticket by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) which confirmed the news moments ago, said the vice-presidential candidate will be unveiled to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the leader of the party in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State later today.

So far, President Buhari is already in Daura to observe his eid-el-Kabir celebration, making the presentation an easy affair.

Shettima, who is the present Senator representing the Borno Central Senatorial District, is said to have played a leading role in the wake of the recent APC primaries for the presidential election, and, just as Tinubu, a two-term Governor of his home state of Borno.

Recall that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has rejected the idea of Muslim-Muslim ticket, and warned parties against its outcome, even as Tinubu allayed its fears, using his wife, Oluremi who is a Christian to demonstrate his religious tolerance.

He said: “In our bedroom, my wife puts her Holy Bible beside my Holy Qur’an, and one thing I discover is that both Books stay with each other peacefully without quarrelling.”/SHARE THIS
