On Sunday, May 4, 2025, residents of number 27, Adeoye Ojo Street, Adamo Ikorodu were woken up by a staccato of gunshots around 1.35a.m.
At the end of raid, the attackers who had come to kill Mr. Gbemisola Adeyemi and his wife, Temilade, were disappointed as the duo were not at home.
Dejected, they ransacked the house looking for their targets and valuable items they could lay their hands on. An eye witness recollected: “I was alone in the house, asleep on the couch in the dark sitting room. Suddenly, I was startled by a loud bang on the main door. It was forcefully broken open, and to my shock, four men entered the house.
“One of them was armed with a pump-action rifle, while the others carried weapons I couldn’t clearly identify due to being just awakened from deep sleep.
“Before I could process what was happening, they slapped me hard, which brought me fully back to reality. They immediately began demanding money and gold jewelry.
“I told them I didn’t have any cash at home and that I don’t own any gold. But it became clear that their true motive was not just robbery; they started asking for Mr. Gbemisola and Mrs. Temilade Adeyemi, the owners of the house, and began searching frantically for the property documents.
“They ransacked the entire house, scattering and damaging my personal documents as well as those belonging to Mr. Gbemisola and Mrs. Temilade Adeyemi. When they couldn’t find the documents or large sums of money, they turned violent — slapping and kicking me repeatedly and used the gun to hit me on the head.
“Unknown to the attackers, a neighbor had heard the loud noise when the front door was broken in and immediately alerted the local vigilante group.
“As the vigilantes approached the house, the armed men opened fire on them and injured one of the vigilante members. The attackers then quickly escaped from the scene before the police could arrive.
The Adeyemis took stock of their losses thereafter. “Before fleeing, the armed invaders took all the money that I kept in the shelf amounting to a total of approximately ₦311,000.
“They also stole several personal belongings, including a wireless speaker, mini bag, a wristwatch, bracelet, slippers, a fez cap, a power bank, a Samsung phone.
“They left a warning that I should tell the owners of the house that any day they are sighted they will be killed on the spot and fled the house around 3:48 a.m., just minutes before the police arrived.
Upon arrival, the policemen interrogated the family friend and tried to get any traces of the attackers.
Also, they questioned the vigilante operatives as well some person in the neighborhood.
The following morning, the victim went to Araro Police Station, Adamo Ikorodu to formally report the incident and the case was later moved to Imota Police Station for further investigation.
