The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has explained the circumstances surrounding the fatal road traffic crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, which claimed the lives of two persons and left world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, with minor injuries.
The crash occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, involving a Lexus Jeep conveying the boxer and a stationary truck.
According to FRSC, operatives of the Ogun Sector Command arrived at the scene within three minutes of receiving the distress call, enabling swift rescue, evacuation of victims, traffic control and prevention of secondary crashes.
A statement signed by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the crash involved a black Lexus Jeep (KRD 850 HN) and a stationary red Sinotruck.
“A total of five adult males were involved in the crash. Two persons lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries,” Ogungbemide said.
He added that the injured victim was taken for medical treatment, while the deceased were deposited at Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu, with the Police Motor Traffic Division notified for investigation.
Preliminary findings, according to FRSC, indicate that the Lexus Jeep was travelling at excessive speed and lost control during an overtaking maneuver before crashing into the stationary truck.
Ogungbemide quoted the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery.
The FRSC warned motorists against excessive speed and dangerous overtaking, particularly on high-speed corridors such as the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, stressing its commitment to safer roads nationwide.
