SPEECH DELIVERED BY AIG ADELEYE OYEBADE, mni, ASSISTANT INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE, ZONE XI, OSOGBO AT THE CEREMONY MARKING THE UPGRADING OF IFEWARA POLICE STATION TO A DIVISION, HELD AT IFEWARA, OSUN STATE TODAY 12TH NOVEMBER, 2019

Protocols

It gives me great pleasure and high sense of responsibility to be here this morning to perform the ceremony marking the upgrade of the Ifewara Police Station to a Division. Today’s ceremony is just one of such numerous important ceremonies hitherto performed recently in some parts of the Zone particularly in Oyo State where Ilero Police Station, Ilora, Igangan, Opete, Awe Police Stations were also upgraded.
2. The significance of the upgrade of these facilities is that it further brings the somewhat sleepy communities where these stations are located into limelight. But more significantly is the realization that partnership between the police and the public is paramount and inevitable. The demonstrable commitment of the citizens to assist the police and the reciprocal commitment on the part of the police to provide quality service to the people underscores our collective goal of entrenching culture of community policing which rests solely on public partnership, intelligence gathering and multi-agency collaboration built upon and enhanced by mutual trust.
3. Distinguished guests, we cannot but expand the scope of policing especially in the face of daunting security situation across the country. This is because as the society marches speedily towards development so is crime becoming dynamic such that daring criminals now brazenly device new modus operandi to perpetuate their nefarious acts. We must therefore form a synergy and harness our resources to fight these common enemies. Upgrading the existing facilities to meet international standard and to enable us cope with prevalent security challenges in this area is one of such steps taken in the right direction.
4. The efforts of the community, contribution of the Kabiyesi, His Royal Highness, Oba Hezekiah Adeniyi Owolola, Ogogo II, Adimula of Ifewara and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, most revered Pastor Enoch Adeboye as well as other illustrious sons and daughters of Ifewara in facilitating renovation of the Police Station which culminated in its approval for upgrade to a division are highly commendable. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, NPM, mni is pleased with the community and appreciates their collaboration with the police. Such partnership is the cornerstone, the bedrock and vital component of the policy thrust of his administration which aims at bequeathing to the nation, a people-friendly and service oriented police force capable of providing robust security for all citizens and other law-abiding nationals domiciled in this country.

7. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police therefore, I sincerely congratulate the Kabiyesi and the good people of Ifewara for being part of the success story being told today and which shall be told in decades to come. We assure you that the police officers currently serving here and others that will be deployed later to shore up the strength of the new division will be diligent and will carry out their duty professionally having regard for the fundamental rights of the citizens.
8. As we stake out our integrity to vouch for the commitment and dedication of our men, we equally urge members of this community and beyond not to rest on their oars in supporting the police. Such support is required now more than ever before. This support is nonnegotiable!
9. As I round up this speech, I leave you all to ponder on the memorable, thought-provoking words of Henry Ford, the renowned founder of Ford Motor Company: ‘coming together is a beginning; staying together is progress, and working together is success’, As the police and the public are coming together to form a new beginning, it is expected that such collaboration will translate to progress and successes.
10. I thank you all for your rapt attention. God bless you.
