The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths, on Monday, called on the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, and members of the National Assembly from the state to reconcile their differences in the interest of the state and the party.
The PDP youths, under the aegis of South South Youth Vanguard, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure, told the governor and the federal lawmakers not to allow what happened in Bayelsa State to repeat itself in their state.
It would be recalled that there have been infighting between the state government and members of the National Assembly from the state, who are from the same party.
The lawmakers had complained that Governor Ayade didn’t consult them in determining who becomes the councillorship and chairmanship candidates of the party in the council elections that was done in March.
The development had warranted a group, the Cross River State Concerned Patriots, to begin the process to recall the federal lawmakers for opposing the governor.
However, in his reaction, Akpofure advised the warring PDP stakeholders in the state to put the fight behind them and focus on how to build the party and develop the state.
He noted that if not because of the Supreme Court, the PDP would have lost Bayelsa state, saying, “what is happening in Cross River State now is not different from what happened in Bayelsa State.”
The Youth Vanguard added that the crisis in Bayelsa that almost made PDP to lose the state, “is what is playing out in Cross River State today.
“Cross River State is PDP state, but we should not play into the hands of All Progressives Congress (APC), like what almost happened in Bayelsa State.
“If not because of Supreme Court, PDP would have lost Bayelsa State.
“We are calling on the governor and the members of the National Assembly from the state to reconcile their differences and move on.
“What the state needs is that all hands should be on deck to move the state forward. Fighting each other will not help the state or the party.”
