The Anti-corruption Transparent Unit (ACTU), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Chapter, has commended the Board for its diligent investigation which led to the discovery of the antics of 22 Computer Based Test (CBT) centers which had extorted 11,823 candidates to the tune of N59 million by charging them amounts ranging from N3,000 to N6,000 as opposed to the N200 stipulated by the Board.
ACTU, according to a report in the latest edition of JAMBulletin, also expressed dismay over the activities of the affected centers and advised candidates to always go through legitimate channels (JAMB Offices nationwide) to avail themselves of whatever services they would like to access.
“This advice is not only necessary but also timely as it would also preclude them from becoming accomplices to unwholesome deeds,” ACTU added.
It would be recalled that JAMB, in response to the raging COVID-19 pandemic and the attendant restrictions, had entrusted these centres with the task of processing candidates’ data employing certain protocols aimed at controlling crowds at service points nationwide.
By way of punishment, the Board suspended the erring centers pending the final approval of the Governing Board of their eventual delisting and prosecution.
