Abacha’s son dies in sleep, as Buhari mourns

One of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha’s sons, Abdullahi,  has died in his sleep in Abuja, leaving well wishers weeping and wailing.

Abdullahi, 36, died on Saturday at the family’s Nelson Mandela Street residence in Abuja.

Mourning Abdullahi in a statement released in Abuja at the weekend, President Muhammadu Buhari commiserated with the Sani Abacha family over the death of their son, Abdullahi Abacha, on Saturday.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President prayed for the repose of the soul of Abdullahi.

The statement said: “President Muhammadu Buhari extends heartfelt condolences to the former First Lady, Marayam Abacha, and family on the death of their son, Abdullahi.

“The President’s prayers and thoughts are with the family of Abacha as they grieve the passing of the young Abdullahi.

“The President prays for the repose of the soul of the deceased and comfort for those who mourn,” the statement said.

Abdullahi died in his sleep at 36.

According to an Instagram post by Abdullahi’s sister, Mrs Fatimah Gumsu Abacha-Buni, the wife of Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Abdullahi died on Saturday at the family’s Nelson Mandela Street residence in Abuja.

Fatimah wrote on her Instagram page : “Innalillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun (Surely, we belong to Allah and verily to Him do we return).

“I lost my younger brother Abdullahi Sani Abacha. He died in his sleep. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him jannatul firdaos (paradise), Ameen. Please include him in your prayers.

“He was hale and hearty last night, but was found dead this morning. He died peacefully in his sleep.”

The funeral prayer was held by 4:00 pm at the National Mosque, Abuja, Saturday.
