The Kano Hisbah board has said Malama Khadija, the famous woman who dissolved own marriage to her subsisting husband to marry her daughter’s suitor, did not violate any Islamic law on marriage.
Khadija has been in the news since she tied the knot with her daughter’s suitor.
The state Hisbah board had earlier disclosed that it was investigating the matter and would brief the press on its findings.
NAN reports that the board revealed its findings in a statement by Lawan Ibrahim, its spokesperson, on Tuesday.
Hisbah said contrary to claims, Khadija met the required conditions in Islam to marry her daughter’s suitor.
Presenting the report, Hussain Ahmed, chairman of the committee who doubles as deputy commander in charge of operations of the board, said his team found “the marriage was legal and had fulfilled all the necessary criteria.”
Ahmed said Khadija was divorced by her husband and had observed the three months waiting period (iddah) prescribed by Islam before marrying the suitor rejected by her daughter.
He also dismissed allegations that she was seeing her present husband while married and instigated her husband to divorce her so she could marry her daughter’s suitor.
“The marriage is legal according to Islam, that was the reason Hisbah commander in Rano Local Government Area supported and took part in the wedding rites,” he said.
On his part, Sheik Harun Ibn-Sina, Hisbah Commander General, commended the committee for discharging its responsibilities.
Ibn-Sina said the committee members were carefully selected due to their vast knowledge of Islamic teachings and societal orientation, so, they should leave the woman alone to enjoy her new marriage.
He called on the public to desist from spreading unpalatable news and avoid misconceptions on issues regarding Islam.
The State Online recalled that famous Kano married woman in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State, Malama Khadija, had dissolved her own marriage to her subsisting husband and married her daughter’s suitor.
According to her, her daughter, Aisha, was not showing required affection to the fiancé, whom she (the mother) professed to be a good and romantic man.
“After my daughter (Aisha) eventually decided not to marry the suitor, I felt that both of us should not lose him just like that, being a good man,” Khadija told a local radio station in Kano.
Having succeeded in wooing the suitor to her side, she moved on swiftly to marry him, when her relatives, the famous AA Rano dynasty went on air and told the local radio station in Kano that Khadija was bold to consummate the disapproved marriage because of the Hisbah Commander of Rano LGA being solidly behind her in marrying off their daughter without their consent… and that they didn’t even know her whereabouts presently.
But reacting on the same radio station, Khadija said she was already living happily with her new husband, adding that her marriage was not prohibited in Islam.
“After realising that my daughter (Aisha) had decided not to marry her former boyfriend, I felt that both of us should not lose him just like that, hence my swift move to marry him,” she maintained.
Khadija said with the decision, she contacted his new husband’s family for the right thing to be done, adding that she, too, is as beautiful as her daughter, if not more.
“I didn’t do it with ignorance. I contacted clerics and they said it is not prohibited in Islam.
The State Online further reported: “When I contacted him (the new husband), he agreed, but my parents and relatives refused to do the marriage rites. That was why I decided to go to Hisbah and we are happily married now,” she stressed.
Khadija’s uncle, Abdullahi Musa Rano, said they refused to allow her to marry the man because she deliberately dissolved her first marriage in order to marry her daughter’s suitor “who was not qualified to be her husband.”
“She mounted pressure on her husband to divorce her just to marry the man. We can’t do this shameful thing in our family which was why we refused to join them in marriage. We are not happy with what Hisbah did and we want them to bring out our daughter. We want the General Commander and the State Government to look into the matter,” Abdullahi Rano said.
When contacted, the Hisbah Commander in Rano, Ustaz Nura Rano, said only the state command of the board had the right to speak on the issue.

But when our reporter contacted the state’s Hisbah Commander General, Sheikh Harun Ibn-Sina, he simply said an investigation into the matter was still ongoing. Findings of the investigation form the theme of this story./SHARE THIS
