Househelp Kills Employer While Asleep, Steals His Phone, Laptop, Other Items

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Cephas Iliya, 27, for the murder of his employer, one Martins Omeri, a Deputy Chief Auditor, at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Abuja.

The announcement came through a statement, Thursday, November 26, by the state police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel, who said the deceased resided at Navy Estate, Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

Nansel said the arrest followed a eagle eyed intelligence on the suspect by police operatives attached to Karshi Division at Arab area of Abuja.

He said, “On 24/11/2020, at about 1145hrs, Police personnel attached to Karshi Division acted on credible intelligence and arrested the suspect at Arab area, FCT, Abuja.

“A coordinated and diligent search was conducted in his apartment where the following items belonging to the deceased were recovered as exhibit: One Infinix phone, Laptop, Clothing, pair of shoes, Clipper, Beddings and few other properties.

“The suspect confessed that he sneaked into the house of the deceased at the dead of the night, on 17th November 2020, while he was asleep and killed him using a log of wood, while his dead body was discovered on 19th November, 2020,” the police further stated.

Following this, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bola Longe, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for detailed investigation after which the suspect will be charged to the court of law.

Longe, consequently, warned members of the public to “thoroughly screen and get to know the background, especially the family of those they intend to employ as house helps before doing so,” with a view to averting similar tragedy in the future.
