The Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn- Umar Garbai Elkanemi has on Wednesday Turbaned Mr. Bata Auta Madaki Ndahi as the ‘Zanna Sotoma of Borno’ (Chief Host/Ambassador of Borno Emirate), with a strong appeal to the Federal Government and the Security Agencies to redouble their efforts in the fight against Boko Haram.
Chief B.M Auta Ndahi as popularly called is a Christian from Marama town of Hawul Local Government Area of the state who is also an elder brother to the immediate past Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Auta Ndahi.
The turbaning ceremony which took place at the Shehu’s Palace in Maiduguri were attended by prominent traditional rulers/title holders from within and outside the state, including the former and present Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Durkwa and Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur who represented Governor Babagana Umara Zulum who was in Abuja for an official engagement.
Also in attendance were various traditional title holders from Zazzau Emirate, Head of Service, Barrister Simon Malgwi, Borno House of Assembly Member Hawul State Constituency, Honourable Stephen Wakawa among other family associates and well wishers.
Speaking to Journalists after the turbaning, the Royal Father said, B.M Auta who was the Wakili (Representative) of the Shehu in Kaduna state has contributed immensely to the traditional institutions, hence the need to bestow on him the Zanna Sotoma of Borno.
While urging all and sundry to team up in the fight against insurgency, the Shehu appealed to the federal government and the security agencies, especially the military to intensify efforts in degrading remnants of Boko Haram who are still terrorizing the fringes of Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad Region, so that, millions of displaced persons would go back to their communities and pick up their pieces.
He specifically thanked the military for their gallantry display, and however urged them to immediately provide adequate security in Marte and Abadam Local Government Areas that were recently liberated by troops, so that, the traumatized and displaced people of the area would go back and resettle for livelihood.
Governor Zulum who was represented by his Deputy, Umar Kadafur promised that the present administration will continue to support the traditional institutions as custodian of culture and peaceful coexistence.
Zulum therefore solicited prayers from all the people of the state irrespective of religious or political differences for peace to reign, as according to him, without peaceful coexistence, all efforts of government towards repositioning Borno to a greater height would be in vein.
Also speaking, the Former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Durkwa thanked the Shehu for finding one of their son turbaned as Zanna Sotoma of Borno.
Durkwa however called on the people of Hawul and the state at large to give their maximum support to the traditional institutions and the present administration in the state.
Responding, the newly turbaned Zanna Sotoma thanked the Shehu for finding him worthy of the position, and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him.
He equally appreciated all who graced the occasion, specifically governor Zulum for sending his Deputy, among other dignitaries be part of the ceremony.
