A 23-year-old boy who killed his father after stealing the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to withdraw N59,000 in Ilorin has been nabbed by the Kwara State Police Command.
The incident happened at Ajibosin Area along Oko Olowo. The area is on the Ilorin-Kaduna highway.
The boy, Hassan Ibrahim, was said to have followed the father, Mallam Sabi Ibrahim, aged 90 to the bank to renew the ATM card where he took time to study how to use the card and as soon as they got home, he attacked the old father.
Ibrahim then injected his father, a retired Army Corporal, with paracetamol mixed with other substances. This made the old man to become weak and dizzy immediately.
The recalcitrant son thereafter took the unconscious father on a borrowed motor bike and took him to an isolated uncompleted building where he strangled him.
Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ajayi Okasanmi (SP) said in a statement that the killer-boy escaped to Kaduna State and started withdrawing from his late father’s account amounting to N59,000 to enjoy life.
The Police spokesman also said the boy confessed that the purpose of killing his father was to dispossess him of the ATM card since he already knew the pin. He also sold the borrowed motorcycle and eloped to Kaduna state where he was eventually arrested.
The ATM card and the stolen motorcycle have been recovered.
Okasanmi said the suspect would soon be charged to court.
