Jigawa All Progressives Congress ( APC) chieftain, Hon. Farouk Adanu Aluyu has called for the immediate resignation of INEC boss, Professor Mohammed Yakubu for allegedly bungling Nigerian planned Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“I do hope INEC should come up with cogent reasons acceptable by Nigerians on specific reasons for the postponement of the planned elections,” he added.
According to Hon Aliyu, INEC as the highest electoral body in the country has failed the nation and Nigerians in failing to conduct the elections as planned.
He described the current situation as a disappointment and bad omen for both the INEC, and the country’s democratization process.
On its part the state INEC state headquarters attributed the postponement to logistics problems.
Mal. Ahmed Daneji the Jigawa INEC administratuve secretary stated even before this development, “we had already despatched elections material to up to six local government headquarters of jigawa state.
” Before receiving the announcement of election’s postponement we have already despatched election materials and later retrieved them back to office”
Daneji assured of full security of election materials while awaiting further directive from INEC head office Abuja.
For the PDP, “what we have witnessed with the INEC was unfortunate, and very disappointing to the nation.
Dr. Mustapha SULE Lamido who iss vying for Senatorship under the banner of the opposition PDP stated while speaking to our correspondent on the postponement of the elections.
To him it was about “time for us to have good manner on how we prepare our affairs. I think it was a sad moment. INEC have all the time to get prepared, so to me the postponement of the elections was far beyond logistics problems since it has four years to get itself adequately prepared for elections.”
