One of the seven suspects, including the alleged mastermind, in connection with the attack on the Old Oyo National Park, has confessed that the group killed five forest rangers because they had arrested three Fulani herders earlier.
The attack, which occurred on January 6, 2026, was reportedly carried out by a 10-man armed banditry group to free their detained members.
The police have vowed to track down and bring the remaining suspects to justice.
Governor Seyi Makinde has condemned the attack and promised to strengthen security in the area.
He also announced a N5 million compensation for each of the families of the deceased forest rangers.
