Post-#EndSARS blood bath: Activist, Angela Mbah, cries out for help

A civil right activitist, Mrs. Angela Oliver Mbah, has raised the alarm that her life is under threat on account of the role she had played in the recent #EndSARS protest in Nigeria. Fredda Isaac reports.

She told journalists that there is increased arrest and execution of the apprehended persons in Umunze, Anambra State, by unknown assailants suspected to be state security agents, after they were tagged IPOB members.

According to her, in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest, so many young men and their families have been displaced and many left with untold hardships.

She narrated: “The situation is pathetic in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State. Nigerian military unleashes its might on the people as a result of the protest and post-protest actions. Many have been killed, families displaced and property worth billions of Naira destroyed.”

Further recounting the incident, one of the youth leaders in the community identified as Onyenauche, told journalists that, recently, the house of Mrs. Mbah was stormed by unknown men with sophisticated weapons.

“The unknown gunmen men numbering about 10, with three vehicles without inscription of identity nor even plate number invaded the home of Mrs. Mba few days after she returned to her husband’s house with her children. The nature of the vehicles and men carrying guns drew the attention of the youths within the locality, who asked them questions on who they are, and who they want to arrest and for what reason,” he stated, adding that the “the youths were apparently unsatisfied and disagreed with their answer and situation in Mrs. Oliver Mbah’s house. They fervently demanded for cogent explanation, insisting that the unknown gunmen should not take the poor woman away to an unknown destination leaving her children.

“In the process, the men started shooting and intimidating the unarmed youths with gun, belts and chains. Two persons were killed and many were inflicted with varying degrees of injuries. The sporadic shooting and use of force on the people that visited Mrs. Oliver Mbah’s house that fateful day caused serious commotion and pandemonium.”

Another eyewitness account pointed that a similar attack took place two years ago in the same house which led to the disappearance of Mrs. Mba’s husband, Oliver.

The youths, therefore, solicited the intervention of the international community and other well-meaning Nigerians as regards the safety of Mrs. Mbah and her children.

Just recently, Nigeria Government has lamented the menace of IPOB, with President Muhammadu Buhari -led administration accusing IPOB of destabilizing the country and infiltrating #ENDSARS protest to cause chaos to the nation.
