The remains of late Senate President, Joseph Wayas, who died in London since 2021 has reportedly been abandoned in a UK hospital morgue for what was described as lack of finance to attend to the body in preparation for onward journey home.

Wayas who was Senate President in the Second Republic (1979-1983), reportedly died after spending months in the hospital in London. Even before his death, there was an outcry concerning his medical bills which was allegedly not attended to, before his eventual demise. He was born on May 21, 1941, in Basang, Obudu, Cross River State, south-south of Nigeria.

Following the demise, the Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, had inaugurated a funeral committee to plan for his burial, but no tangible result came thereafter.

The committee was chaired by a two-time Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi.

However, after over a year, the late Wayas has yet to be laid to rest as family sources said there was no finance to attend to the body for onward transfer home, even as they lamented they could barely cope, especially against the backdrop of  the departure of their bread winner./SHARE THIS
