No fewer than 90 residential houses, a Church, Clinic, 9 shops, and other properties worth millions of naira were razed down in Debiro,Tarfa and Dakwaima villages of Biu Local Government Area when some group of insurgents suspected to be Boko Haram sect invaded the communities recently.
This was disclosed on Monday by the District Head, Alh Mohammad Maina Bukar while briefing the Deputy Governor, Hon Umar Usman Kadafur who paid a sympathy visit to the affected communities.
Unfortunately, investigation revealed lack of telecommunications network in these communities delayed first hand information regarding the attacks, but reliable Sources said, local hunters who repelled the attacks succeeded in killing three members of the insurgents, while one resident sustained bullet wounds on his hand from the attackers with no civilian death.
Biu Local Government Area is one of the peaceful Community in Southern Borno, where both Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai and the Deputy Governor hail from.
The Traditional ruler while speaking in an emotional ladden Voice to the Deputy Governor and his entouraged during the sympathy visit said, “The insurgents stormed the villages at about 6:30pm to 10:25pm simultaneously where they burnt down 90 residential Houses, 9 shops,1 church, 1 dispensary/Clinic, 1 tractor and carted away with essential commodities as well as food items.”
Kadafur while sympathizing to the people of the communities urged them to take the incident as an act of Allah (God) and continue to pray for lasting peace, stressing that, vigilante group of hunters in the area will be well equipped and be provided with monthly stipens to help operate side by side with the security operatives for the defence of the area.
