Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, has intervened in the feud between MTN and deposit money banks over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s block of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) USSD by banks.
Pantami has also discussed with the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, in order to resolve the issue between the two parties.
The disagreement arose over banks’ rejection of reduction of commission paid by the telecom company from 3.5% to 2.5%.
Following the feud, MTN subscribers could not access USSD of many banks including First Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank, Access Bank and other financial services.
But Pantami said he had spoken to the CBN and NCC on the issue. In a statement posted on his Twitter page, the minister said: “On the fallout between @MTNNG and some banks on USSD services today, I engaged with both regulators, the Governor of @cenbank and EVC @NgComCommission.
“We have reached an advance stage of resolving the issues, for the services to be restored to our citizens. Many thanks.”
