Gas Explosion kills 30 in Lagos

Thirty persons have been confirmed dead in a gas explosion at Iju Water Works, Lagos, today.
Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, DG/CEO, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, who gave the update on LP Gas Tanker Explosion this evening said:
“The inferno has been put out completely. The total number of casualties is 30 consisting of 20 Adult Male and 10 adult Female.
Post disaster assessment is as follows:
Residential building- 2
Church- 1
Event Centre- 1
Commercial building- 4
Market- 1 (consisting of 15 shanty shops)
Cars- 11
Mini trucks- 2
Bus- 1
Heavy duty Truck- 1
Total number of Buildings- 23
Total number of Vehicles- 15
Combined responders were the Agency’s Tiger squad, LRU Paramedics, LRU Fire team, LASG Fire Service, NEMA, NPF, NSCDC and Red Cross”
