Foremost Muslim association, The Companion has thrown it’s weight behind the suspension, by the Lagos State Government, of religious activities involving more than 50 as part of the measures to curtail the spread of coronavirus.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the National Amir ( President) of the association, Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike.
The statement reads:
“The Companion wishes to commend the initiative of the Lagos State Government in agreement with religious leaders to ban all religious congregational service involving over 50 worshipers in the state. We also wish to recommend this initiative to other states threatened by the spread of the virus.
“This has become imperative in the light of limited facilities in the state and nationwide to test, quarantine, and treat patients that may be infected if these proactive measures are not taken to curtail the spread of the virus.
“Life is sacrosanct in Islam and health is a necessary condition to the preservation of life. All lawful measures taken to preserve health and life are therefore welcomed by The Companion. This temporary suspension of religious congregation should be seen in the light of the Islamic principle of preservation of life, prevention of harm andproactive response to impending danger.
“This temporary suspension of 50 and above congregation should not be seen as a complete ban on religious congregational activities, rather we urge Muslims to continue their individual and congregational daily prayers at home and establish greater bond with their family.
” All Nigerians should continue to observe their personal and environmental hygiene and obey government directives on prevention of the spread of the virus. This is for the good of all. We pray Allah to have mercy on the Ummah and humanity in general”
