Shettima greets Zulum at 50

Immediate past Governor of  Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima has felicitated with his successor, Professor Babagana Zulum for clocking the golden age of 50.

In a congratulatory message on his social media handle, Senator Shettima said

“Your Excellency, you have in less than three months of assuming office as Governor of Borno State, proved to be efficiently competent in managing the challenges of peace building, rehabilitation, and re-settlement of our brothers and sisters who are directly affected by the insurgency and repositioning our state.

It is for this and more that you earned the respect and admiration of all the good people of Borno.

We celebrate you on the attainment of a golden age.

May Almighty Allah remain your strength.

Governor Zulum was born in August 26, 1969 in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

After elementary schooling in Mafa Primary School from 1975 to 1980 and secondary education in Government Secondary School, Monguno from 1980 to 1985, he went to Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, where he obtained a National Diploma in Irrigation Engineering in 1998. Then, from 1990 to 1994, he studied at the University of Maiduguri, where he obtained a degree in Agriculture Engineering after which he served as a youth corps member with Katsina State Polytechnic.[ He proceeded to University of Ibadan from 1997 to 1998, where he obtained a Masters degree in Agriculture Engineering. In 2005, he enrolled for a PhD in Soil and Water Engineering with the University of Maiduguri which he completed in 2009.

In 1989, he joined Borno State Civil Service as an Assistant Technical Officer in the State’s Ministry of Agriculture.[In 1990, he moved into Borno State Unified Local Government Service as Senior Field Overseer and later Principal Water Engineer. In 2000, he took up an appointment with the University of Maiduguri University as an assistant Lecturer where he rose to the rank of Professor.

He was Deputy Dean and Acting Dean, Faculty of Engineering in 2010 and 2011 respectively. In 2011, he was appointed the Rector of Ramat Polytechnic.

In 2015, he was made Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement by the ex Governor Kashim Shetima, a position he held till 2018.

On October 1, 2018, he won the gubernatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and  was elected to the Office of the Governor of Borno State at the 2019 governorship election held on March 9, 2019 with 1175440 votes.
