Ogun considering death penalty for kidnappers-Gov Abiodun

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has said his administration is considering sending a bill to the House of Assembly proposing death penalty for kidnappers.

He stated this when he received members of the Remo League of Imams who paid him a visit as part of activities marking the 2019 Eid-el Kabir celebration.

In a statement posted on his social media handle after the visit, the Governor stated:

“As a peace loving state, We are currently considering sending a bill proposing capital punishment for kidnapping, to the House of Assembly. I disclosed this today {Monday} when I received on a Sallah homage visit, the Remo League of Imams.

“Our state is an industrial hub where numerous companies lawfully carry out their operations. It is sad that the recent actions of kidnappers in the state, especially if unchecked, may gravely affect the security of lives.

“In the spirit of Eid-El-Kabir which is the first religious celebration since our administration came on board, I urged religious leaders to be committed to ensuring peace and unity among the people.

“Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR
Executive Governor of Ogun State.”
