He assured that with him as the Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, federal lawmakers would work harmoniously with the Executive to achieve this.

Senator Lawan said the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has many noble and laudable programs and projects and that under his watch, the National Assembly’s relationship with the Executive would be based on cooperation, collaboration and partnership.

He pledged that if and when the National Assembly has cause to differ with the executive, such differences would be resolved amicably. “We will not go to the market place to make noise,” he assured.

Senator Lawan said although the APC is the majority party in the Senate, opposition lawmakers would be carried along ” for the betterment of Nigerians.”

The contender for the number three position in the country however said his aspiration is not a do-or-die affair.

He recalled that he contested for the office in 2015 “but it was not the will of God then that I would not be Senate president.”

He noted that his failure to clinch the position did not prevent him from performing his duty as a Senator, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and later the Senate Leader.

Going philosophical, Senator Lawan said he believes that God has already decided what everyone would be in life from cradle to the grave.

Speaking earlier, Senator Yahya Abdullah, Chairman of Senator Ahmed Lawan for Senate President Campaign Organization revealed that he and other members of the team met with APC National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole two days after the last General Elections to sell the candidacy.

He said they told Oshiomhole that Senator Lawan was their choice if APC decided to zone the Senate Presidency to the North East where he (Lawan) hails from.

Senator Abdullah, a former university don said the team took the same campaign to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha.

He said it after they gave convincing reasons on the qualities and qualifications of Lawan that the party and The Presidency endorsed him, pointing out that he was not an imposition of the party and the president.
