As Nigerians were already jubilating the presence of a certified COVID-19 vaccine from Russian Federation in their country, Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, September 4, dashed their hope, saying that what the country had received from the European country was just an aide-memoire, not a vaccine sample.
According to him, the aide memoir would enable the Nigerian team study and get ready for further researches, patronage and application.
Ehanire who spoke through his Director of Information, Media and Public Relation, Olujimi Oyetomi, in a press statement, explained that the courtesy visit by the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Alexey Shebarshin, was for the handing over of an aide-memoire to the Nigerian health authorities.
He stressed, “The Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine is still in the custody of the Russian Federation’s Embassy in Nigeria, and not with the Nigerian health authorities,” saying there was the imperative to put the records clearer.
