Gov Abiodun condemns killing of three students by customs vehicle chasing smugglers Posted by: Mikail Mumuni October 8, 2019 Leave a comment Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has promised to investigate Monday’s tragedy that saw the death of three students of Ojumo Community High School, Ihunbo in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State. The Governor also promised to bring the culprits to book while condemning the incident. In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, SF Emmanuel Ojo, Governor Abiodun urged the people of Ihunbo and Ipokia LGA at large to remain calm, as the State Government would not condone any act that endangered the lives of the people, including women and children. Reports emerged from Ihunbo, Monday, that three students, who had just closed from school, were hit by a vehicle driven by an official of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) who was in pursuit of suspected smugglers. A number of persons, including market women, were also reported to have been injured in the incident, while the concerned official was said to have immediately fled the scene. “It comes as a rude shock that young children with bright futures had their lives cut short in the most gory manner,” said Governor Abiodun. “We will immediately commence investigation and make sure that those innocent children receive justice. Anyone found culpable will be brought to book.” The Governor prayed the Almighty God “grant the families of these innocent children the fortitude to bear the loss.” The Governor also advised the NCS to only moderately engage suspected smugglers and other criminals, especially when civilians could be caught in the crossfire.
