By Joe Adedeji, Ilorin

The hearing impaired group as well as the other people living with disabilities have called on the Kwara State Government to give them employments in government.
This, they say would accommodate their interests and that of other people living with disabilities in the state.
Chairman Kwara State Association for the Deaf, Mr. Ridwan Hassan, made this plea during the ongoing International Week for Deaf People.
He said “the deaf can also work in other government parastatals and agencies like the normal people”
He disclosed that most of his members attended the same educational institutions with other members of the society and also knowledgeable in various fields of endeavours with their certificates to back it up.
According to him, among his members were experts like; medical Doctors, academic Lecturers, and Engineers among their members.
The group also called on the state government to employ an interpreter as a Special Adviser who would transmit to people living with disabilities as a way of carrying them along in the activities of government.
He noted that most of them are being cheated when it comes to the issue of expressing themselves to defend their rights in every sphere of life.
Hassan also specially appealed to the State Government to include the deaf and people living with disabilities in its empowerment programmes.
