Derby loss: Nasarawa United will get out of relegation water – Arikya Abubakar

Acting Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United Football Club, Abubakar Arikya, has come out to say the club will escape relegation in the current Nigerian Professional Football League Season, despite luck shying away from the team.

The coach gave the assurance during the NPFL week 17 post-match interview with journalists at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, Benue State, this evening.

According to him, the team will restrategise ahead of future games.

“We will go back and work again. I am comfortable with the way the boys are playing, and hopefully, we will get the results coming.

“There are three things to note in football – you either win, lose or draw, which is normal. And whichever one comes your way, accept it”.

Arikya disclosed that the poor start to the season also contributed to the team’s current predicament but expressed hope that the hurdles would be surmounted.

“We started the league season very badly. The team is just getting into shape, and we are confident that before the end of the mid-season, things will drastically improve”, he said.

The much talked about North-Central derby between the two teams who are boundary neighbours, ended 2-1 in favour of host, Lobi Stars FC, with Obasi Chigozie scoring Lobi’s opener in the 8th minute from a free-kick before substitute, Samad Kadiri made it two from open play in the 89th minute.

New acquisition, Ohanachom Chinedu, playing his debut appearance, scored Nasarawa United’s consolation goal in the 90+2 minutes, few minutes into his introduction, as he swept Dauda Maigishiri”s low drive shot into the back of the net to register his goal account for the Lafia-based team.

The 2-1 result means it was the first time Lobi Stars would concede at home this season, having kept clean sheets in their previous home games.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa United, with an oustanding matchday14 encounter with Enugu Rangers in Lafia, will be at home this coming weekend against Abia Warriors for the matchday 18 tie, before ending the first stanza of the league with a trip to Kano to face Jigawa Golden Stars on 9th February in the week 19 clash at Sani Abacha Stadium.
