Da’wah is obligatory upon every Muslim, says Gov Oyetola at The Dawn DHP

“As we are followers of Muhammad (SAW), the responsibility of continuing this work rests on our shoulders. So we should try to keep in mind of whom we are enjoined to imitate by striving to participate in dawah at all times. The Prophet (SAW) says: “By Allah, if a single person is guided by Allah through you, it will be better for you than the best of camels.” [Bukhari].”

SPEECH BY THE GOVERNOR, THE STATE OF OSUN, MR. ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA AT THE FORMAL OPENING CEREMONY OF DAWAH HOLIDAY PROGRAMME (DHP) OF THE COMPANION/THE CRITERION OSUN DISTRICT AT THE NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP, EDE ON THURSDAY, 26TH DECEMBER, 2019

Alhaji Jamiu Babatunde Olawumi, SSA to the Governor of the State of Osun on education, delivering the Governor’s Opening Remark at the ongoing Formal Opening Ceremony of DHP at Ede

PROTOCOL:

I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, the accursed and start in the name of Allah, the most compassionate, the most merciful. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and testify that Muhammad is His Messenger and Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon his noble soul.)

I greet you all with the best of greeting by saying: Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

It gives me great joy to be here as Chief Host at the formal opening ceremony of the annual Dawah Holiday Programme (DHP) of the Companion/the Criterion Osun District. I believe that being here today has afforded me the opportunity of sharing from the great rewards Allah has promised those who engage in Dawah.

The Companion/the Criterion is one Islamic group that I am proud of as a Muslim who is always willing to identify with every righteous act that attracts the pleasure of Allah. The name reminds us of one of the greatest companions of the Holy Prophet (SAW). His name is Omar ibn Al Khattab (RA), the second Khalifah of Rasulullah (May Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him).

The National Amir of the companion, Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike, FCIB, FCMA, FBPMI delivering his welcome address at the ongoing Formal Opening of the Da’wah Holiday Program, at NYSC Orientation Camp, Ede, State of Osun.

Omar (RA) was reputed to be a strong, heavily built, brave and highly courageous believer who Allah used to strengthen Islam. The day he converted to Islam, Prophet Muhammad was said to have been overcome with joy as he cried out that God was Great!  Within days, Omar led a procession of Muslims to the house of God where they prayed openly for the first time in the history of Islam.

It was on this occasion that Prophet Muhammad gave him the nickname Al Farooq – the criterion.  It denotes one who is able to distinguish truth from falsehood.  Islam was strengthened with Omar; his fierce hatred melted into a love that knew no bounds. His life and his death were now for the sake of God and his Messenger.

It is therefore my joy to see my fellow Muslims doing the job of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as done by Omar (RA) and other companions of the Holy Prophet throughout their life times.

Da’wah is recognised by the majority of scholars as being obligatory upon every Muslim. It is about enjoining the good and forbidding the evil to Muslims as well as non-Muslims. Dawah is, therefore, something of great importance within Islam and more importantly to Allah (SWT). Consequently, by fulfilling our obligatory acts we are earning the pleasure of Allah (SWT) and getting close to Him.

Allah (SWT) says the Holy Prophet (SAW) is a role model for all believers (Laqad kana lakum fi rasulillahi uswatun hahasanah) – Q 33: 21. The occupation of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) along with all other prophets was to be a Da’ee (caller to Islam). For us to be given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the greatest man to have ever lived, is a huge honour and favour given to us by Allah (SWT).

As we are followers of Muhammad (SAW), the responsibility of continuing this work rests on our shoulders. So we should try to keep in mind of whom we are enjoined to imitate by striving to participate in dawah at all times. The Prophet (SAW) says: “By Allah, if a single person is guided by Allah through you, it will be better for you than the best of camels.” [Bukhari].

Additionally, Allah (SWT) says: “Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining Al-Ma’roof (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (Polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are successful.” [Qur’an: Chapter 3, Verse 104].

I congratulate all members of this Islamic group particularly those of us that are here to participate in this year’s Dawah Holiday Programme. I pray for Allah’s guidance and protection on all the participants.

May Allah accept it from us as an act of ibadah and make us earn the full reward on this earth and in the hereafter.

Once again, Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
