Breaking:Arsenal STRIP Granit Xhaka of captaincy Posted by: Femi Ige November 5, 2019 Leave a comment Unai Emery has confirmed Granit Xhaka has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy. Arsenal head coach Emery informed the midfielder, who has been left out of Arsenal’s squad for their Europa League trip to Vitoria, that he would no longer be part of his captaincy group on Tuesday morning. Emery took the decision after Xhaka’s furious reaction to abuse he received from fans when he was substituted against Crystal Palace, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has now been appointed as the club captain. Emery said: ‘Again we can do one step more with him he is not today here but also I think we need time with him and first to be calm and training with us every day but I was speaking with him this morning and also I decided he is not one of the captains in our group. I decided that and I told him this morning.’ The Switzerland international has not played for the club since his angry reaction being booed when taken off against Palace on October 27. He did not play in the Carabao Cup defeat by Liverpool, before missing the draw against Wolves last weekend. For Vitoria on Thursday, Xhaka is not the only senior player to have been left at home, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Callum Chambers, Emile Smith-Rowe and David Luiz also not travelling for a variety of reasons. It is likely several young stars will also feature, with Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Reiss Nelson all heading to Portugal. The Gunners so far have a perfect record in the group stage with three wins from three games to go top. Record signing Nicolas Pepe executed two stunning free-kicks to help the Gunners beat Vitoria Guimaras 3-2 in their last match in the competition. 2019-11-05 Femi Ige Share !
