Represented by Director Essential Drug Services in the Agency, Pharmacist Mohammed Buratai said the purpose of the training is to ensure that all the Facility Managers and their Pharmacy In-charges from 101 Performance Based Financing (PBF) contracted health facilities in Borno State have basic knowledge and rudiments in Essential Drug Management.

Buratai noted that, the Agency and the NSHIP -AF in Borno state is very committed to effective implementation of the project across the state, especially on the need to adhere strictly to EDM procedures in saving millions lives in the state.

The Project Coordinator (PC) of NSHIP -AF in the state, Hajiya Habiba Saidu in her remarks said, the ongoing cascasing/stepdown training was sequel Training of Trainers (TOT) on EDM which were conducted in Abuja and Maiduguri recently.

According to her, as the project is preparing scale up to all the Local Government Areas, the training would be conducted in batches for participants across the state.

She said, those from Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere which are the pilot LGAs since 2017, in addition to Magumeri, and Kaga Local Government Areas of Borno Central and North senatorial District are currently participating in Maiduguri as venue for the exercise, while other participants from Biu, Shani, Hawul, Kwaya-Kusar, Bayo and Askira- Uba in Southern Borno Senatorial District would be in Gombe state next Monday for exercise.

This is purposely to ensure that at the end of the training, all drugs procured by 101 contracted contracted Health facilities must reflect the certified pharmacies (Sources) on the Invoice with generic names, and should be NAFDAC Certified.

Likewise she said, all drug selection is done based on patients need, data from consumption pattern, seasonal variation before procurement, Storage/Distribution and Use to enhance quality in heath care delivery services in the state.

Among those who facilitated the Training are the Technical Assistant of Performance Based Financing (PBF-NSHIP) In charge of Borno/Yobe states, Mr. Nji Valery Che, Mrs. Comfort Dave-Diamond, Abubakar Abdulhamid, Teibo Grace Funmilayo and Chidinma Paul-Iyayi, all from the NPHCDA, Abuja.
