BOKO HARAM: ZULUM LAUNCHES SECURITY OUTFITS TO PROTECT FARMERS

…DONATES 10 PATROL VEHICLES TO SAVE LIVES

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum on Wednesday officially inaugurated Nigeria Security and Civil Defiance Corps (NSCDC) Agro Ranchers solidly charged with the responsibility of protecting farmers against Boko Haram onslaught on their farmlands across the state.

The governor also donated 10 new Patrol Hilux vehicles to the Squad in their new task.

This initiatives is to ensure food security and protect farmers who mainly have felt victims of insurgents while engaging in farming activities.

Recalled that last year’s cropping season hundreds of farmers were killed on their farmlands with looting of crops, a situation, which forced thousands of farmers in the hinterlands and the fringes of Sambisa Forest abandoned their farming activities this year.

Zulum while inaugurating the Squad, said the present government is determined to nip in the bud all forms of security challenges across the state.

He said, his administration since inception has promised to assist all security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram and terrorism, stressing that, the recent attacks witnessed in Gajiram, Gubio and other places across the state will not deter his government’s policies and programmes aimed at better the lives of the citizenry.

In a speech delivered by the State Commandant, Abdullahi Ibrahim, NSCDC, he said, “Agro Ranchers is a specialized operational Squad which is saddled with the responsibility of providing security to farmers/farmlands as well as protection of investment in Agricultural Sector notably and not limited to Ranches, Cattle Colonies, Grazing Reserves as well as the Must -Talk- About RUGA settlements.

” This Agro-Ranchers is Nigerian Premier Light Infantry Fighting Force, specializing in raids and assault missions deep inside enemy territory.

“The role model personnel’s of NSCDC are mentally, morally and physically trained to seize, destroy or capture enemy facilities or materials and save lives of our innocent farmers.” He said.

On how Agro-Ranchers will operate, the Commandant said, “75 Agro-Ranchers Squad in conjunction with 120 Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Hunters and Vigilantes will be restricted to troubled areas of Maiduguri metropolis and its environs such as Njimtilo, Molai Kura, Tamsu Ngamdua, Shuwari Karaye and Modu Ajiri axis”.

According to Ibrahim, the Rules of Engagement would be strictly on minimum use of force devoid of firearms, No accidental discharge, extortion or Human Right abuse nor Extra Judicial Killings.

The Commandant however sounded a strong warning to each Squad which is to be monitored by a Deputy Commandant among other Officers, that on no account should these newly donated patrol vehicles be seen in popular Galadima or Barka Da Zuwa social joints/beer parlours within the metropolis.

He therefore solicited support from sister security agencies and stakeholders like the military, police and other para- military agencies, as according to him, confronting insurgency and terrorism is very difficult for only single security agency.
